NYE was bitter cold, so we didn’t get much in the way of visitors last night (which was expected)…but things really warmed up as dawn approached, and Maabs and the kids decided to pop by for a New Years visit right as I was heading to bed (5:39am).
Since Maabs went missing last New Years (when she was a kit), I felt honoured that she took the time to check in this year ☺️
I guess she figures I had enough stress last year 😅

I couldn’t stop kissing her precious face last night❤️
Just so grateful to have her back🙏🏻
She stayed with us for a few hours, and then left to go to her den.

We are beyond words thrilled and amazed by Hildy’s return last night ❤️
She is truly a miracle!!!

We are beyond words thrilled and amazed by Hildy’s return last night ❤️
She is truly a miracle!!!
To update everyone on her condition-
She is healthy and actually has put on more weight since we saw her 2 months ago 😮
Because of this, we have ruled Torpor out of her reason for disappearing, as she would have lost body fat, not gained.
It is also certain that she was receiving some kind of care from someone in order to gain this weight.
Whoever you are…we thank you🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
She also has 2 visible injuries. 1 on her back which looks like a bite or trauma/heavy blow. (I’ll post pics in a subsequent post). This first wound is healed however, (and very nicely at that!), so my best guess is that it occurred shortly after she disappeared 2 months ago. The 2nd injury is to her dead eye. It has filled with blood again.
Before anyone panics, please know that this is not causing her pain. The eye was already dead and blind. This would most likely happened from trauma to her head…either by something else, or by her walking into something (which being mostly blind, she often does).
We will keep watch over her eye, and hope it does not become infected…in which case…her eye may need to be removed if antibiotics don’t help.
Cross your fingers that it heals on its own like it usually does ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Unlike the last few times she visited in October, she was happy to stay for many hours and enjoy our company.
Her appetite was also back, and she enjoyed many of her favorite treats ☺️
Back in October, after her first month long disappearance, she had lost a lot of weight, and was acting like a mother who was coming to feed quickly and then needed to rush back to her kits.
Although we didn’t publicly say it, we guessed that she had given birth to a 2nd litter of kits at the time, as her behavior suggested as such.
Now, 2 months later…it is clear that if she did have a 2nd litter…they did not survive…or they were taken away by humans 😢
If they were stolen by humans, I pray that they are least being rehabbed properly.
